Communication pathways between governance committees

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out as part of a benchmarking exercise to improve communication pathways between governance bodies at our university.

We’re particularly interested in how other institutions manage communication between their Academic Board, Council Committees, and University Council. Specifically, we’d love to hear:

  1. How do you currently facilitate communication between these groups?

  2. What methods or practices have you found to be effective?

  3. Are there any approaches that have been less successful or created challenges?

  4. Do you use any tools or platforms to support this communication?

Any insights, examples, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated (and remain private and confidential).

Currently VU have Written Summary Reports provided by the Committee Chairs to AB and Council, 5 minutes on each Council Agenda for committee members to provide a verbal update and regular meetings of the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor and Committee Chairs.

We thank you in advance for sharing your experiences.

Hi Bianca,

Our processes are very similar to CSU and USQ. We also have a Chancellor's Committee of Council, the membership of which comprises all the Chairs of all the Council Committees and the President of Academic Senate. We have a dedicated staff member, the Council Communications Officer, who is responsible for facilitating the sharing of information with and between Council members as well as providing administrative support to the Chancellor.

Regards,

Di
