Stipends for controlled entity directors and committee members
Colleagues,
I am reviewing the payment of stipends/honorariums to our governing body, its committees, and, most importantly, to directors and committee members of university controlled entities. I have reviewed past information through this Forum in relation to Senate/Council/Board (which has been very helpful), and specifically wanted to understand the sector practice for controlled entities - such as:
Do you pay your board directors of controlled entities? If so, how much?
Do you pay your committee members of controlled entities? If so, how much?
What rules or guidance do you follow on how those payments are set? eg. range imposed by State legislation; amount set by university senate/council/board; amount is standard across all controlled entities / amount depends on size/complexity of entity etc
What rules or guidance do you follow on who receives what payments? eg. staff are excluded; maximum of 1 payment per person (even if they are on the board and a committee).

Very interested in feedback to this question as well. We have two types of Directors for our CE Boards (even though they have the same obligations). We have executive managment for the university who are appointed in a Director capacity to the CE Boards (they do not recieve any remuneration or time recongnition). We have also recently introduced external director appoitments. These recieve remuneration. I found it hard to determine the appropriate remuneration for them - our HR struggled to benchmark this. We loosly applied some State Government reumeration and appointment guidelines - which takes in the size, financial oversight, and number of meetings/time committment into consideration for remuneration.
