Council Engagement with Staff and Students
Happy New Year everyone. Are there any good examples in the sector for staff/student engagement with the Council? At Macquarie, we are exploring ways to enhance engagement between the Council and its community, and have tried several different models over the years, including a student committee and focus groups. Any practices and examples that can be shared would be most appreciated.

HNY! UWA has two student members of Senate - the President of the Student Guild and the President of the Post-Graduate Student Association. These roles are both 12-month terms, in line with the election cycles for these roles. In terms of staff representation, we have an academic member of Senate and a professional staff member of Senate, in addition to the Academic Board Chair. The staff representatives are elected by their respective staff communities for a three-year term. We also have two representatives of Senate who are elected by the UWA Alumni association for three-year terms. These representatives also serve on different Senate Committees. We also include student representation on key working groups like Prevention of Gender-based Violence etc. Would love to know if there are any great ideas out there on ensuring staff and student voices are heard.
