Adoption of new Code of Governance Principles and Practice - has anyone adopted the new Code?
Hi all,
My Council has been considering whether to adopt the new Code of Governance Principles and Practice for Australia's Public Universities. After considering the mapping I provided that showed the requirements had gone from 38 in the Voluntary Code to 66 in the new Code and that there were items in the new Code where we would not be compliant or only partially compliant if we were to adopt the new Code, I was asked how many universities have adopted the new Code and how comfortable they were in adopting it.
If anyone is willing to share whether they have adopted the new Code, how comfortable they were adopting it, and for those that haven't adopted any reasons why not, I would be most grateful. I will only share summary information with my Council; not anything that would identify any university.
Our main concern is that this new Code doesn't seem to provide the opportunity to choose not to adopt/comply with a section of the Code (like publicly publishing members' declaration of interests) and just document our reasons for that. The if not, why not ability is provided for in the ASX principles on which some of the new Code is based.
Many thanks, Kylie.

Thanks Tony. Yes, it would be really nice if there was an opportunity for broader input into these Codes. I didn't even realise this new Code of Governance Practice existed until several months after it was published.
